VietNamNet Bridge – Relevant bodies have determined that acetone-mixed petrol sold at a filling station in southern Tien Giang Province was related to two companies, PetroMekong and PDC – PetroVietnam.
Le Buu Loc, Vice Chief of the Market Control Bureau of Tien Giang Province, said that a sample of A92 petrol containing 4.4% acetone was collected by chance at a filling station in Ward 5, My Tho City.
The owner of this filling station declared that he bought 10,000l of this kind of petrol from the Thuan Tien Trading Joint Stock Company based in Binh Duc Commune, Chau Thanh District on August 24. The station had sold out this particular quantity of petrol by September 2.
Director of Thuan Tien Company, Bui Van Ton, reported that at the time the local Market Control Bureau took the petrol sample at the Huynh Thinh filling station, Thuan Tien was stocking over 507,000l of the same kind of petrol in its tank No.2, including 400,000l purchased from the Mekong Oil and Gas Joint Venture Company (PetroMekong). This volume of petrol was siphoned into the company’s tank on August 23. By September 5, when relevant bodies released that the petrol sample collected at the Huynh Thuan filling station contained acetone, Thuan Tien Company had sold 47,000l.
Under the request of the Southern Goods Quality Control Bureau, PetroMekong declared that the batch of 400,000l of petrol that it sold to Thuan Tien Company came from the Oil Product Processing and Trading Company (PDC-PetroVietnam) in southern Vung Tau City. This batch was imported from Singapore.
PetroMekong also verified that more than 500,000l of the petrol in tank No.2 of Thuan Tien Company came from two sources: 160,000l had been directly imported from Singapore and the remainder from PDC-PetroVietnam.
At a meeting with Tien Giang officials and representatives of the Southern Goods Quality Control Bureau on Thursday, September 7, Deputy Director of PetroMekong, Ly Hong Duc, said that all batches of petrol it imported were tested and didn’t contain acetone. He asked for one more test under the witness of related sides.
Tien Giang’s relevant bodies agreed and they took the petrol sample from tank No.2 of Thuan Tien Company, which was then sealed off. The test result will be announced today, September 8, said Mr Cong.
Tran Thanh Nam, Chief of the Business Department of PDC-PetroVietnam, said that in August, PDC sold 400cu.m of A92 petrol to PetroMekong. This was part of a 10,000-tonne batch that it imported from Singapore’s Sojitz Petroleum Co. Pte Ltd. This volume of petrol has been sold. PDC’s major markets include the Mekong Delta, the Central Highlands and the north.
Mr Nam said that after newspapers reported the appearance of acetone-mixed petrol in Tien Giang, PDC joined hands with the local Market Control Bureau to take samples at some filling stations selling PDC-PetroVietnam petrol to test.
According to him, the tests show that PDC-PetroVietnam petrol samples don’t contain acetone, so there is no proof that the acetone-mixed petrol sample from the Huynh Thinh filling station came from PDC-PetroVietnam.
